Discussion about the Wiki itself[edit source]

Hi Alan,

Now that the new Wiki is public, will discussion about the Wiki move onto the Wiki itself? I know that much of the preparation prior to the big event happened on Discord, and my understanding is that was out of a need for privacy when discussion plans. I avoid Discord, so I had to opt out of participating in those discussions. I was wondering if the public launch might move Wiki discussion back into a more public-facing arena (like the Wiki itself) or if people just generally prefer Discord and I'm in the minority.

Thank you for all your hard work and time invested! It's a big benefit to all of us. PSGarak (talk) 03:30, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the kind words, and for reaching out about your concerns. I fully plan to have discussion of wiki matters shift back on-wiki after launch (i.e. user talk pages and blogs, I assume?)

Discord will remain available for users who prefer it, to submit text for inclusion on the wiki or to get help with templates or modules, e.g., but I won't make any major decisions without giving notice on-wiki, and I'll strongly encourage major discussions to occur on-wiki.

I hope this at least partially assuages your concerns. Please don't hesitate to ask if anything else comes up. Alan (talk) 04:19, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Perfect, that's exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks so much! PSGarak (talk) 13:28, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

mediawiki/extensions/Popups[edit source]

Hi, congrats on the move, it's quite the undertaking.

There's one extension I'd like to see on here, namely the Popups one.

I've recently started my own wiki for my D&D campaign using MediaWiki and this extension does a lot for ease of use, in my opinion.

Edit: didn't notice I was no longer logged in so my message was posted anonymously, hope this edit will fix that.

Hi! It's now installed, and you can opt-in to it from Special:Preferences. Hope this helps! Alan (talk) 21:54, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Page not migrated?[edit source]

I've noticed the Cryptographic Chiropteran page doesn't seem to have survived the transition to the new wiki (looks like an isolated issue? at least, I can't find any other pages where this has happened). I've recreated the page here for now, but I thought I'd let you know on the off chance that it's happened somewhere else.

Also, thank you for all your work setting up the new wiki - it's so much better now! 34Witches (talk) 01:24, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. There's at least one other page that also appears to have not been transferred over properly (Find the Moonlit Chessboard) - the history was still in the database, but the page itself was deleted.

In that case, I restored the deleted revisions from the history and all was well (though the fact that the pages weren't restored properly in the first place is utterly perplexing).

Evidently I need to take a closer look at the deletion log to see if any other pages suffered from this. Alan (talk) 01:32, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
